It appears as though some Nikon lenses with VR ( Vibration Reduction) will occasionally produce images that are framed higher than the rest, resulting in odd-looking and choppy footage.
Please note that this is an issue with the lens itself, and not with Radian, so you will need to play with your camera/lens settings to resolve this issue. In general we recommend turning VR off, but even this is not a sure bet.
Below is feedback from a user who thoroughly tested his set-up, and we hope this will be of use for you if you are having issues as well :
Using the Nikon D5300, with the stock 18-55mm lens.
- Without the Radian, using the built in intervalometer, the issue persists with VR=OFF.
- Without the Radian, using the built in intervalometer, the issue is resolved with VR=ON.
- Without the Radian, using external intervalometer, VR=OFF issue persists, VR=ON issue resolved.
- In all the above cases the results are the same with the LCD door open or closed.
- Same results with Nikon D3300 and 18-55 lens. (different camera, and different lens).
- With the Radian, VR=OFF issue persists.
- With the Radian, VR=ON, when LCD door closed, issue persists.
- With the Radian, VR=ON, when LCD door open, issue resolved.
I also tried a different lens. Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 (completely manual, no VR)
- Works without issue with Radian, internal Intervalometer, or external Intervalometer.
It appears that this is a quirk of the lens. Nikon DX lenses with VR may need to be set to VR=ON, at least for the 18-55 lens.
